Warli Village In A New Combo

I recreated a village scene in the Warli style for a recent commission. Traditionally, Warli is done on brown background with white chalk. Click here to know more about this painting style.

But I decided to give the traditional a twist. Since the bottle was black, I felt using white would only seem too predictable. So I went for a pale yellow, and the results are for you to see.

So there is the palm tree, almost representing the Tree of Life in this setting, because most activities happen around it.

The women folk are busy with the household activities like threshing crop and fetching water from the pond.

A celebration and dancing are also depicted in this village idyll.... where humans, birds, and animals co-exist in perfect harmony.

The fish pond is a new element that I added to the village scene, and I am happy with the way it came out. Hope the client is just as pleased! :)

Solitary Blossom

Double-petalled hibiscus flower, picked up on one of my walks, from under a flowering bush in the neighbourhood park.

Since the stem had been broken off, I had to put it in a flat platter for display. Much like a floating flower. But it still looked so gorgeous!

Last working day at school today for my kids, and then it is vacation time till June end. Can't wait for the fun to begin! How much work will get done is quite another question though... :)

Somewhere Out There

This one was inspired by my visit to Mathura's famous Vishram Ghat last year.

The place was teeming with monkeys, and the hubby was freaking out as two simian groups quarrelled for food and territory. With screeches renting the air and lots of jumping around in the background, I managed to spend barely three minutes here, clicking just two photos.

But the calm of the place (despite the simian cacophony) stayed with me. And that is what I tried capturing in this painting.

If you have any favourite locations or memories you want captured, write in to me at creativerumblings@gmail.com and see your experience captured for posterity in a painting.

Krishna Redux

Revisited the Krishna design recently, making slight changes in colour schemes and placements.

The 'kunj' or garden where Krishna the cowherd frolics with his cows looks a little different in this one.... as does the peacock's plumage.

The one thing that remains the same.... my sense of satisfaction! :)

One And A Half

The strawberries are back, even half eaten ones! :)

I feel hanging food paintings in the dining or cooking areas brings in a sense of abundance and well-being. Do you agree?

Two Little Wonders

How cute are they! - two little bottles given to me for some jazzing up. They'll be used to keep moneyplant sprigs.

So I decided to make them look similar, yet different. Used the same colour combo on both, but altered the designs a little.

Individual shots of the two little wonders...

Now instead of looking like twins, they look like cousins! :)

View From The Top

Same bottle, different angle! The flowers are still pouring in daily from the garden, so a tiny dark-coloured bottle that I turned into a vase works well for the smaller varieties. This was an arrangement with orange flowers.

The brightness of the orange flowers and green leaves contrasted beautifully with the dark shade of the bottle, and inspired me to capture it on paper.
